Regeneration and the DPF is here to stay on the newer diesel trucks so what we need to do is learn how this stuff works. IMO a EGT (pyro) is a must as the EGT will always let you know when you are in regeneration due to the higher temps. regen interval will vary with the type of driving you do.. Lots of city , start and stop, low speed = more frequent regenerations. Higher speed interstate driving...fewer regenerations.
Quality of fuel will also affect regeneration. On a long days pull of 300 miles or so at interstate speeds we may never go into regeneration or we may regenerate once. At the end of the day we see no difference in MPG. There is a lot of technical data on regeneration and DPF on the internet.Good stuff to know..
