I actually use two types of Diesel additive...... Diesel Kleen & Bio Kleen. The Diesel Kleen is for all the previous mentioned reasons, but the Bio Kleen is to prevent bacteria and fungi from growing in the diesel. Yeah....it's a real thing.

We run a Volvo 730 tow vehicle and usually stay 3-4 winter months in an RV resort on the southern coast. Therefore, the truck occasionally sits idle for 2 months at a time. (We have a Smart Car as a "run around" vehicle.) The truck can hold up to 220 gals of diesel at a time. An idle truck and the warm/moist weather conditions could increase the potential of bacteria in the diesel. Definitely not a condition I want to deal with.

I've actually seen diesel fuel filters plugged with bacteria. Like slimy jello.
