Don't know if anyone knows more about this or not, but I've noticed that newer phones & tablets (and a lot of other stuff) have higher charging current capability. My G5 has a fast charge duplex cord & AC adapter and the last DC charger I picked up was rated at 2 amps. Since I've a dash cam, a GPS, a phone charger X2 (LOML and tablet/phone/hot spot), I got a 1 to 3 splitter that's fused at 15 amps - but that's for my truck.

I'd bet that anything inside your Montana is not wired for the kind of load that a vehicle would provide to one of those sockets (and WHY hasn't anyone come up with a better connection that that sausage!!!!). They've probably lighter gauge wire than they should be for anything over 5 amps DC. If you need more, it shouldn't be difficult to run a heavier gauge to a new one (or even rewire an existing).
