Even though I see why people use the Teflon plates, I took mine off and chucked it. The reason - it's too thick and takes up too much vertical room on the hitch plate. I felt the vertical room was more valuable in telling when the hitch cleared the pinbox in order to pull out from under the rig. I just give the hitch plate a shot of WD-40 before each trip and make sure the jaws are greased up. If the Teflon plates were thinner like maybe a 1/64th inch or so, then I would use one.
