Al, I just went thru this and had to replace the gas valve. First, you must have a demand for the heater to light, turn the system off(use the circuit breaker), run the hot water until you feel it going cold. Then, Go outside and look at the end of the gas tube and have the wife throw the switch, you should see the sparks at the end of the tube. this will tellyou the electrical portion is working correctly, If you see the sparks it should try three times before it shuts down and you would have to reset the breaker. If it cycles correctly, and you get gas on the out side of the gas valve, it is probably the valve itself. I went thru this with an RV tech and he replaced the valve and all has been fine since then.... It seems to be a fairly common problem with these dual heaters. I watched closely so I could do it myself next time......Hope this helps....
