Let me lay this one on you to consider. Now keep in mind that this is about Volvo Class 8 Semi tractors running Cummins ISX engines. We started have a rash of complaints about loosing power. To make a long story short we found that some fuel filters we had purchased (name brand) restricted the fuel flow just enough that we had to hook the computer back up to the truck and re-set the parameters. We,(later on) went back to the fuel filter recommended by cummins and problems went away. Keep in mind also that continamated fuel was not our issue it was the size of the micron filter.
So this is one of them cases where you might listen to your dealer's mechanic when he recommends a brand of filter. There are so goods ones and bad ones out there even though they may be brand name. You engine controls are based on the about of fuel flow available and if that gets restricted, or even if it allows too much - who knows what can happen.
