Ask the dealer to see the service record for the truck and ask to speak to the former owner if possible. If it hasn't problems so far, you're probably safe.
Just remember, the internet collects complaints like crap collect flies. People complain when they have a problem but remain silent when they don't. For every complaint you read about, there may be 100 (or 10,000) who have had no issues. Plus one person may complain on multiple boards, which can distort things.
