Mine was EPDM. About 3 years those started "popping up". None came through the membrane. Debated on it and cut EPDM patches to cover them so they wouldn't pop through (about 15-16), rolled them on and sealed them. When I traded it in almost 4 years later not a thing had changed. IMO it worked out fine.
