Sorry for the delay, just saw this. The new u-bolts are 9/16". The original u-bolts on the rig were 1/2", so that dictated the need for the new plates. I don't know if there is a big difference in the need for the bigger u-bolts, but it certainly doesn't hurt going bigger.
