2 years ago when we traveled for a year we were always on the look-out for fresh garden tomatoes, often we stopped at roadside stands touting 'Home grown fresh tomatoes' or something like that. We only found the thick-skinned tasteless greenhouse tomatoes, these are designed by some lab-coated bean counter. Designed for maximum shelf-life and made to look purty and mimic home-grown tomatoes. Store-bought Tomatoes are tasteless, the greenhouses try and scam you by packaging the bright-red tomatoes with stems left on them. Hello... just because they have stems on them, they are not good 'mater's.
I will have some in reserve, under the big overhang we have in back of the house to save from a freeze in the pots I had to buy dirt for. I hope for a good crop, but you just never know.
