Let’s say we are on an 8000 mile trip. A normal trip for my me ad the wife.

For fuel cost I will use my local area.
At the flying J and the Loves at the freeway AZ 95 and I40 the fuel is 3.49.9 so I will use 3.50 per gallon.

At the Smith or Maverick in town it’s 3.15.9 so I will use 3.16 per gallon.

I know for a fact that 20% bio diesel gets on the average 2 mpg less so I would get about 8 mpg using 20% bio diesel. Instead of my usual 10 mpg.

8000 miles at 8 mpg that’s 1000 gallons of fuel at 3.50 per gallon = $3,500 dollars

The same 8000 miles at 10 mph is 800 gallons of fuel at 3.16 per gallon = $ 2,528.

Or a savings of $972.00

No matter what miles and what per gal cost the 2 mpg loss along with the increase in fuel cost at the truck stops adds up fast.

Even if I were to take away the 2 mpg it still is so much better to avoid the truck stops.

Using 10 mpg for both scenarios.

800 gals at 3.60 per gallon = 2,880.
800 gals at 3.16 per gallon = 2,528.
Or a savings of 352. For this trip.

Doing this helped me to justify the one time $650.00 cost for the added tank.
But lets say you hit the side of your truck or camper on the side of a pump as you try to leave the 7-11 in town. I suspect the bill for that damage just wiped out all your savings on fuel. Not to mention the hassle you will have with the police and insurance........just sayin. The cost of the fuel is really only part of the equation.

As for your extra tank, go for it. I certainly take no issue with that!

Oh by the way if your spending that much money on fuel all of us oilfield workers want to channel Bartels and James and say "thanks for your support"!
