Saw that first hand a number of years ago staying between town of South Fork and Wolf Creek Pass. Day 1 we drove over the pass toward Pagosa Springs and saw a little smoke up north just west of the pass. Day 2 a very large cloud of smoke was rising over the pass. Day 3 looked like a huge volcanic eruption had occurred with mushrooming smoke clouds spreading over the entire area. Late in the day everyone, including the nearby town of South Fork and areas north toward Creede were ordered to evacuate. Towns were saved but huge areas of forest will take many years to fully recover.
