This is one of those things where each of us has our own opinion based on our own experience and yet opinions are often deeply held.
Not to change or challenge, I'll just say that I'm with mallardjusted. Our tripod is in the garage and we no longer take it along. It made no discernible difference to us.
Of course, one big factor with us is that we are 'travelers', not full-timers.
