Dont forget -to start with, your truck weight includes 2 adults, 2 kids, (maybe) 35 gal. of fuel (about 200 lb.), hitch - 100-150 lb, anything else in the truck bed. With a pin weight for me of around 24-2500 plus things listed above (minus the kids) I am at 10400 lb and right at my axle limit on the rear. For sure go for the 3500 (since to my dismay it only costs $1500 more and I didn't even look for it) rather than a 2500.
