Our normal manner concerning reservations is to make the first 1 or 2 nights as they are relatively local and we have been there numerous times. After that we decide where the next day will take us and make a one night reservation down the road. If we like it there we ask for another night or nights that evening. If no space, we head down the road. We normally have a general direction or destination in mind but try not to set anything in concrete.
Hopefully this Covid has not changed our ability to take the road essentially one day at a time.
