They make a tool for installing or reintalling the rubber gasket.
It looks like a pizza cutter wheel.
Can be picked up at any hardware store.
To prevent this I just installed at door guard.
I got it Home Depot and installed it on the the lower part of the screen door.
It is called a Pet Keeper Guard I think, it was only like $14.00
