I can't remember if the original mattress was well supported by the frame. We bought the Sleep Number bed in -08. I had to extend the plywood base to cover under the Sleep Number Mattress. Has worked out well. Did have to trim so it wouldn't hit the built in dresser. Otherwise worked out fine.
