Based on a myriad of forum reports, the problematic area seems to be the area directly behind the truck where the generator and battery compartment doors are located. The only problem with the nose cone would be bugs which are usually easily wiped off in the morning dew. We elected to try the TowTector rock and mud guard and unfortunately have only had one extended trip to assess it's effectiveness. We do not have any chipping currently and hope that this trend continues. We will be using a Croftgate product (Croftgateusa.com) to clean the rig and another that is supposed to help prolong the shine which we hope will make the bug issue easier to handle. We did not elect for any type of protective coating for either area. There has been mixed results reported for the different types of rock guards available, but so far, so good for what we chose to use.
