Nope, you don't have it straight. The guy with the one ton and the guy with the 3/4 ton are telling him that if he puts the same things on his truck the one ton has, he will in effect have the same capacity as a one ton. I know the concept may be difficult for some to grasp, but at least for GM products, the ONLY difference between the two is the rear springs, extra set of wheels, and fender flares. Everything else, including drive train and brakes is the same.
