The disc brakes are a night and day difference.
My concern with your set up would be your tow rig. Without looking it up, I seriously doubt your 21 year old 3/4 ton truck is anywhere near legally capable of handling that trailer. It WILL have a pin weight north of 2860lbs, witch I am sure is WELL beyond your payload capacity.
