Of course Bill is right. A diesel is more critical. When any diesel from a small eco car to a 6000 HP locomotive fires the cylinders vibrate causing tiny bubbles to form on the outside of the cylinders. These bubbles eat pin holes that will eventually eat through the cylinder walls. The 7.3 Power Stroke Ford was especially bad for this. The cylinders were thin and they could be ruined in a hundred thousand miles.
