That can't be any worse than running the fridge on propane to keep the contents cold. If you do that you might as well turn on the heater since both these devices are supported on 12V. Keep in mind the furnace runs through propane much faster, but it should certainly last day by day.

You'll need to turn off the propane before entering long tunnels or refueling - any spark as these appliances reignite could cause a big booming problem in these areas. This is why the rule is not to run with propane turned on.
