Curtis, you are correct, that is the way it is supposed to work. However, I wonder how many people ever look up there to be sure that it is in fact popping out like it is supposed to? When rain comes in then they will know. |
A technician advised me to treat those slide out seals (flapper seal), yearly with a product made for that purpose. As far as the actual job, I normally would have replaced the seal myself, but a knee injury precludes ladder climbing, so I hired it done. Remove the screws on each end, pull the flapper seal off it’s track; use a rag to remove any dirt along both sides of the channel and sweep out any debris that was behind the seal. The old seal top should have covered the side seals, so cut new seal to length, appropriately. Push /slip the new seal (V) into the channel until it is snug against the top rest and then replace the screws on each end.
The seal treatment I use is made by Protect All: Slide-Out Rubber Seal Treatment. Directions for use are on the can.
