Learning curve...

so I says to myself, "Hershel, you have a good GPS in the truck, that will work for walking around, you don't need a hand-held" I have a nice wide-screen Nuvi 1400 (I think that's right)
Well, it did not work well at all, I did switch to 'pedestranian' mode, but the only way it would work at all is just to go to 'Where am I?' and, with the object GPS reading written on a scrap of paper, start walking and compare the readings, adjust accordingly. Also, the battery must be bad, as it goes dim and only lasts for 15 minutes or so.
Probably not what the Geo-folks would call a good plan.
Before Sue woke up, I grabbed the credit card and off to Amazon I went :0. Did a little research on the Geo-forums and ordered a Garmin
Oregon 550. Looks like it will keep me from getting lost, and take a picture of me being lost if it comes to that....
Placed our first two Caches, now have to lear how to document them on Geocache.com (OzzOzz)
As always, input from you who have walked that path, welcomed.
