In the two places we stay the longest (Illinois 4 months - Florida 5 months) I utilize a 4'x 4' custom deck with stairs so the factory steps don't get used except for 3 or 4 months traveling. We have thought they were a little weak so we place support under the bottom when using them. After reading these posts though it may be a good preventive maintenance measure to replace any rivets with high grade bolts.
