I too had the ticking sound upon further investigation I was missing a screw on one of the fan blades where they connect to the housing.
Then I remembered One day after returning home from a trip I found a screw on the floor did not know where it came from put it up guess where it came from that's right the fan blade. Installed to screw in no more ticking sound.
