You might leave a dull spot where you use the rubbing compound. I’d start with some polishing compound and if that didn’t work I’d try either scratch remover or rubbing compound followed by the polishing compound. Finish with your wax of choice. Always start with the least aggressive media first. A random orbital buffer will give a better and easier result. If you resort to a grinder with a cotton pad, or a non D/A buffer be careful and keep it moving or you can “burn” the finish.
