Was it stored in a hot/warm area? I use the Mobil One synthetic grease on Dexter's approved list and had the same issue when I was storing it in my garage as it is very hot in there. I live in Florida, very near the surface of the sun.
I started keeping it inside where the AC can prevent it getting so hot and haven't had an issue since.
