A heat strip is just an electric heating element, basically the same as an electric space heater. As noted above, a heat pump reverses the operation of the air conditioner so that it heats the air going into the trailer instead of cooling the air goint into the trailer. A heat pump is more efficient than an electric heating element, but generally doesn't work very well at temps colder than the upper 20's.
