Depends on what tv and model surround sound unit you've got. Most all tv's have audio output jacks, newer ones have coax fiber outputs. Almost all surround sound units will have a fiber sound input. When I put in a Blu-ray player, I had to get a converter to make fiber output from the tv in order to hook it to the fiber input of the surround sound set. (Both were Samsung.) This works fine, although there's a barely noticeable delay to the sound out of the TV.
