Wait for the kit. This is a known problem with the Sealand toilet and the kit "USUALLY" fixes the problem.

In the meantime, what I did that worked, take you toe and just lift up on the foot flush level slightly. It closed the ball for me and would keep water in.

If that does not work, here is a tip on how to eliminate any smell that may come up when there is no water in the bowl. Take a Zip Lock baggie, gallon size or bigger, and partially fill it with water. Set it in the bowl agains the ball. When you need to use the facility, take the bag out and place it in the small waste basket, and when finished using the facility, put it back in the bowl.

Should hold you until you get the parts.
