Van Horn, in the great state of Texas

We have been there a few times, stayed at the KOA, some of the best good old greasy hamburglers I have ever had, were from the KOA Kafe there, great service from the work Kampers that staff the small eatery.
Sue and I left home last Winter, stopped at the Kansas Turnpike between Lawrence and Topeka, and met a couple from Minnesota, headed West. We spoke with them for a half hour or so, really nice people.
Welll, we met them at Van Horn, a few weeks later..small world.
We were walking back to our Monte after burglers one night and saw a huge fire off to the East, looked like the town was on fire. It turned out that was the dump, they burned it once a month. The manager of the KOA's son was on the fire department.
Van Horn is on Interstate 10, 120 miles East of El Paso, 50 miles South of Guadalupe Mountains National Park. Some of the highest mountains in Texas are there, including the 8,085-foot El Capitan.
It has a Broadway street, with a pharmacy, the only one in a 90 mile radius.
According to a local legend, a rancher named A.S. Goynes supposedly suggested the healthy climate there attributed to long life, he stated the motto, "This town is so healthy, we had to shoot a man to start a cemetery". He was the first adult to be buried there,
Shot to death by his brother-in-law, over a feud over a watering hole.
10,000 or more vehicles pass through Van Horn each day. John Madden twice has mentioned in print, his favorite Mexican restaurant there.
Sue and I love the little town, the air is clean, stars bright, it is a cozy little place, an Oasis in the middle, between San Antonio and El Paso.
