The valve to my front black tank has debris in it (my theory) and it will not close all the way and a little bit of stuff leaks and collects to provide a surprise when removing the hose cap. I need to clean the debris and/or replace the valve. Instead - I bought one of these and installed it on the hose connection. I hook up my hose to this - then pull this valve to drain the black tank. No more surprises.
