Empty Nest - our folding chairs were made with something less than matchstick pine. They easily split. I actually chopped them up and used them for kindling. We bought some 1960s Cosco folding chairs at an estate sale for maybe $15 each (similar to the pic below) and store them under the bed.

Strangely, the dining room chairs did not fair much better, but the chair back was too high and was always hitting the bottom of the window valence. We ditched those and bought new chairs.
