Just a couple days ago I had a similar problem. There was nothing wrong with my valves, but the pipe attached to the gray valve was almost broken in two. After cutting a small section out, and replacing the L-connection pipes, I used one of these to join the gap because I did not want to cut into the pipe for the black tank:
