Here is a little trick if you cut off a bolt to shorten it: Run a nut down on the threads past your cut line before you cut off the bolt. Once the bolt is cut off, then remove the nut. The nut acts like a "thread-chaser" and cleans up the threads so you can re-start the nut later.
