I have owned 4x4s for year because I needed it to go where I needed to go. Now I just drive them for the occasional need, but still wouldn't be without it. To my point, I engage the high range 4x with some regularity on a dirt road and put her in 4x low for a 1/4 mile or so exercise the system and keep things lubed up. I think the factory recommends that you do so, but check your manual. My thinking, if you don't use it, you will loose it. Sure comes in handy when you need it. Not much sacrifice in towing capacity (GCVW) and you will eventually find yourself in a situation where you will wish you had it.
