Just wad up 3 - 4 pages into balls about softball sized and throw em in ... at least that's my method. As stated ... it's the ink that absorbs ordors. I've never noticed "newspaper smell" once in use again.
Totally off subject, but try newspaper to dry off windshield or windows on your house after spraying window cleaner ... streak free!
