I took fishing trips to Canada a couple of times with friends, and the last leg of the trip was a flight in a bumpy little plane to a fishing lake. We used 4-inch PVC pipes, cut jigs out of foam to hold the poles steady in the pipes, put a cap on one end and a screw-on fitting on the other. Those pipes took a beating in the back of the plane, but our rods made the trip without damage.
