As an afterthought, what is that wallboard constructed of, if it is the same as the floor (particle board...I know that is not the right name), I don't think that in the long run it will provide the support you need. Keep an eye on it for bowing also. A couple more two by fours extending to the basement floor might be in order. Just thinking out loud here....but if you and Mama are happy, that is all that matters!!
