I remember when I was in high school in the early sixties our science teacher said we were headed for maybe an ice age. Then in the seventies Exxon scientist discovered we were actually making the climate warmer. They got it surprisingly right, within a very few tens of a degree. Of course Exxon kept this secret until they were forced to declare it. Since the sixties and seventies scientists have learned how to read temperatures back thousands of years very accurately.
