We stayed at Garden of the Gods RV resort and it was fine. Proximity to Garden of the Gods and other hiking was a plus. Downtown is not far. Air Force Academy is great to visit (check to see if they have finished Chapel renovation). Drive to top of Pike's Peak was fun.
