My friend did something similar, this past January he put his hitch in the truck in the dark and then hooked up to his 5th wheel. When he pulled forward to test that the hitch was locked, the hitch came out of the truck and was just hanging on his king pin. He was sort of confused at this point and thought the hitch pulled out the trucks bed. When he checked all out he realized he put the locking pins in rail slots that did not match up to hitches anchor points. Another thing to re-check when hooking up!
