My planning is not geared toward leaving any substantial money to the kids. But at the same time I do not want to run out of money before we pass leaving the kids the burden of paying for our care. I am 72 and DW 70 and both in good health. My parents and most uncles and aunts lived into their late 80's and many into their 90's. DW's mother is 95 and still going. Mine died at 93. That is a lot of years left to finance if either of us make it that long. I would rather leave money on the table than be a financial burden to the kids, or worse yet, fall into the pit of government funded end of life care. But if there is any money left over for the kids and grandkids, that is not bad either.
