Towed with an 2006 F250 FX4 shortbed for years before I upgraded to the 2012 F350 FX4 shortbed. Never had clearance issues.

My 920 miles to empty is without the trailer. I do average about 12 mpg towing. All I have onboard is 50 gal of diesel. The OEM tank was removed and replaced with the 50 gal aftermarket tank.
