We had problems with our dometic thermostat. Called an rv co. And was advised to do a hard reset per instructions in the manual . Worked like a charm. If battery power is not an issue try this.

We had similar problems, smelling burning. The electrical relay on the outside of the tank was burned. RV Tech replaced the relay but within 2 weeks it was gone again. Same problem, burned wires. ...
