I have rebuilt them. You can get the measurements and try etrailer, ebay and surpluscenter.com. If the rods are not rusted and pitted, the best and probably cheapest is to get them rebuilt.

Don't buy the Coroplast screws at Home Depot, the metal is too soft to go thru the frame. Go to a hardware store. I bought some from Ace that would drill and tighten where the box stripped.

You can also rebuild the cylinders if the portion of the rod that retracts is not rusty. I took my cylinder seals to a local supplier and they matched them with new ones.

Yes you definitely need a new rod. I found some cylinders like that on Ebay, but shorter rods. An extension would work or a take a longer rod from another cylinder and put it in the short cylinder.
