RC Solo 2/15/2012
The RV park has a Park Model size RC field. I have wanted to fly RC for a long time. Last year I bought a flight simulator program and usb control box. I tried flying helo but they are tough so I keep going back to planes. Early this month I purchased all the equipment and a Slo Stick RC plane. Yesterday the instructor pulled my plug and asked if I was ready to solo. Did and grinning from ear to ear.

I hear that he is going to name his plane the weed whacker.

My first flight with instructor was into canopy of a palm tree. The plane bounced out and the instructor applied power, it flew and he landed it. That is the rest of the story.

Way to go John ! I have some of those in my attic. I flew them some but belong to my sons. I have recently learned of a Chinook model tha I have not yet seen, probably too expensive. You know what
They say, "the only difference between men and boys is the price of
Their toys". Tree huh. Don't give up. Larry

You beat me to the story John! I was going to give you the name of "Palm Clipper"! Glad you got to do your Solo and hope you keep it above ground and in one piece!:D;)[:o)] Maybe we'll have to start a new club within a club and have something new to do at the Fall Rally! Take care and keep us informed on your flights!

Congratulations!!! I had cars when I was younger and always thought planes would be fun but never had the guts or the $$$ to try it. Hope it continues to give you a lot of joy.

My first solo was into a light pole in a school parking lot. Changed the prop and was back into the air in no time.

John- If you really want to get hooked on the flying " bug" ,go to This site should take care of the "addiction" that sets in after a few flights. I started out with a trainer in 2000 and then built my fleet up to 7 birds. Not a better feeling than greasing the landing on the final flight of the day. I have all gassers, but would like to get into electrics at some point as they do not require as much sky and ground support if you stay with the smaller planes available.
Have fun with this sport it is really great. An available flying field makes it all the better.
Regards, Keith

Got one for Christmas as a kid. I let my brother try it first. He crashed it onto pavement. End of plane. Someday I'd like to try it again. Good go, John. Have fun!

My son tought me to fly remote control planes. Taking off was always much easier than landing. I always liked to fly about 3 mistakes high. Have fun and keep flying.
