PS. I use a Reese 16k manual slider (short bed) that I purchased in 2005 at the same time I bought the truck. Make sure whatever you buy has the manufacturers towing package. I am extreamly happy with the overall quality of my Ford, other than the aforementioned problems. The Reese can be hard to slide sometimes if your not perfectly straight, but I seldom need to slide it. The slider also makes a little noise and can jerk slightly due to the movement in the slide mechanism. The MorRyde cushioned pin box almost completely alleviates this compared to the solid pin box on my previous trailer.
Hope this helps, and enjoy your 3100-- we do ours! Mike

edmck, I like my 2005 F250 a lot and it tows my 3100rl just fine. Unfortunately I have been left stranded by it twice. Once at 80,000 miles or so the egr cooler failed and then at about 120,000 miles a valve associated with the fuel injection failed. The 6.0s have a bad reputation for failures. However I don't think the 08-10s were any better. The newer 6.7 seem to have much better reliability, but there seem to be lots of problems with the DEF systems. Power wise and ride are pretty good on mine, but a little more power wouldn't hurt for some of the more extreme mountain driving. Don't let the weight police make you think that you must have a dually to pull a 3100. I might be a couple of hundred pounds over on my RAGW, but probably towed around 8,000 miles before adding the air bags. I never had any issues towing without the bags, but they do seem to help on bridges and abrupt dips. If I were in the market for a inexpensive used 3/4 ton I would seriously consider a pre DEF Dodge.

I too have a 3100rl but do not yet have a tow vehicle. Would love to not spend $40K on a 3/4 ton diesel. Please tell me how you like your 2500 Ford and also what hitch do you use? Any suggestions you can make on a budget 2500 would be really appreciated. Thanks.
