Good news folks. Today I was checking with a neighbor (he worked at the local NTB) asking if NTB would mount tires I didn't buy there. He told me they will for $20 each, mounted and balanced.

I called the store to also check if they would install my TPMS monitors for me. On a whim I asked what tires in ST235/80-16 load range G were offered. I had checked their website and it only showed two choices in load range E.

The salesman said yes they had several, Sailun was a choice. They were the S367. Price is $142 each, $3 more than current Simpletire price. They did not stock them but would only take 1-2 days to have them in hand.

My point to all this is that they are available at a National chain. If one is traveling and has a tire issue it seems reasonable we should be able to find an NTB that works in our plans and get a replacement if needed.

I found that availability of the two main Sailun tires was good. However, with the current interruption of everything, especially stuff from China, that may change. That's why I bought a set of replacements now for installation later. Kind of like loading up on toilet paper.

Are you going to haul them around until you need them? What if you are in Texas and need one tire and they are at home in Lemoore? Seems silly. The Sailuns should outlast the virus.

Actually, I was going to change out the tires in a couple months. The supply chain of goods coming from China, which is most goods, is already disrupted to some degree and will get worse before getting better. I am taking a long road trip in August and wanted to ensure I had fresh tires before that. The current tires are timing out at six years.

128.92 on Amazon. Free shipping.Sailun S637 Trailer Radial Tire-235/80R16 129L Mine were delivered to the house yesterday, within 48 hours of ordering, and the date codes are fresh as of December. Doesn't seem like any availability problem......
Good to know about NTB when we are out and about!

Just curious, what is NTB? Good information on the Amazon angle.

I really like them

For the record I have Sailuns on my Montana. I have recommended them to others.
At this point in time, in consideration of what is now transpiring, when I need new tires I think that I will go for a G rated ST tire made in the USA.
Where there is a choice I will pay the upside and go with a USA product.
My opinion yes, but I can make a difference in who gets my money.
Enough said....

Why would anybody buy a set of China made tires? Especially with all that’s going on now. Doesn’t an American company like Goodyear make as good of a tire?

Good Year, "Marabombs" ring a bell. Never will buy Good year tires again.

Remember you date code is counting down now. I know you know that. Good luck.

GY makes the G614, not as good as Sailun and more than twice the price. I prefer the best no matter the price.

I think a couple of months won't hurt.

The reason I mentioned availability is there are some goods already seeing supply gaps. Astrophotography equipment is one as nearly none of that is made here.

Walmart Online sells the Sailun S637 G rated 235 85 16 LRG at $168 with free delivery to the store. They mount (and balance) them with metal high pressure valve stems for $24 including their road hazard coverage per tire good at all Walmarts. Ours were all made in the 39th week of 2019. 2800 miles so far and they've been fantastic.

They also have the 235 80 16 size but we opted for the highest load rated G (4400#) our 110psi wheels will take

Your tires may be for 4400#'s but your wheels i believe are for 3750#'s. The 235x80x16 tires are for 4080#'s. I have the 85 series like you but the tires are rated more than the wheels no matter which tire you buy. I like the slightly larger imprint of the 85's but either tire is great and more than you need for the wheels we have.

I found a similar thing with Discount again a national chain that I am thankful for in McKinney TX., very accommodating. I have 15" wheels so I don't believe Sailum tires work for me, when I called Simpletire, Sailum were not an option for me last fall. I did find that although accommodating urban tire shops can be challenging. Several I called when asked directly said they did not have enough jack to lift my 13,000 lb. rig, so your 16,000 lb puppies may require some advanced communication. In addition they change car tires all day long, but they do not work on large RVs as much. Urban lots are frequently tight and if you don't watch shop guys (newbies) drawing the short straw, might try and lift with your axle. The guys that helped me probably thought I was a pain when I stopped them until they spoke to their boss when pointed out where I wanted the rig lifted. Not nay saying anyone just be your own advocate and check and speak up calmly.

Thats about the only reason I went with the Sailun 85's instead of the 80's , a bit taller. But yes you run out wheel capacity before the tire does .

I understand your emotions, certainly something to think about . IMO the Goodyear G614 is not as good a tire as the Sailun S637 . The reputation ,and track record of the Goodyear G614 is " no where near " as good as the Sailun.

So, I'm confused. I have a 2012 HC with 6 lug factory wheels. Will I be ok with the 235x85 16 Sailuns? Thanks!

Your wheels will be stamped to let you know. Not sure of when HC had ?? rated wheels. I know of a 2017 that wore the Sailun 85s just fine at 110 psi for 2 years now.

Looks like 2012 High County's came with 235 80R 16 Load Range E tires with 6 inch wide wheels. As noted before, you need to confirm the wheel load capacity located on the back side of your RV's wheel. Hopefully they will be rated for 110psi and 3750#.
Sailun makes a tire that size in LRG that fits a 6 inch wide wheel that should work. They should be Speed rated L or 75MPH. Below is the link to the Walmart online tire:

I'm thinking Sailun tires are going to be a bit more difficult to find right now, especially tires that are not 6 months or older. They may not be able to be imported .

I bought a set of five from an online vendor, and sent them back, too old for me. Ordered another set from Walmart, and they were a little newer, and decided that was the best I was going to do, thats been just over a month ago. Mine that I bought the DOT was 4519.The first set was about 10-12 weeks older in the 30th something week of 2019. Neither set terribly old, but I wanted six months or less.

That is why I commented, post #2. Not saying availability is a problem, but could become one. I've seen availability issues with other goods.

BTW, the Sailuns are on. Going with the consensus of the board on this brand. One thing that was disappointing was how far out of balance they are. Two had to be rotated on the wheel a second time to keep from having to put on a ton of weights. Otherwise, time will tell.

</snip>
Did you specify that you wanted the wheels "Lug Centric" balanced, and verify it was done, v. the conventional "Hub-Centric" method???? Lug-Centric uses an adapter which mounts the wheel through the lug bolt holes. Hub-Centric uses a cone the fits into the center of the rim.

Unlike the thousands of auto wheels they do everyday, the wheels provided on Montanas do not have a perfectly centered hole in the rim. Balancing one using Hub-Centric may require a ton of weight and a subsequent re-weigh will find the wheel out of balance and a different amount of weight being required.

Get the wheels balanced with the Lug-Centric method and you will find the tires are not the balance problem.

The last time I replaced a tire on the Montana, I asked for Lug-Centric balance. "Oh yea no problem, let me write that on the ticket" said the counter guy. But that doesn't mean the guy doing the work read the ticket. I watched as he Hub-Centric balanced the wheel, added a couple of lbs. of weights. and then rolled it out to me. After a short chat with the manager, the wheel was re-balanced with 1 oz. of weight.

Carl, good advice as usual. I didn't ask for lug centric balancing and honestly did not even think about it. Who knew these wheels would be off that much.

Same here, didn't give it a thought. My thinking anything is better then nothing, pretty sure they are not even balanced at all from the factory on a new fifth wheel.
